What Recruiters Look for in a NED     Charlotte Boyle
Partner, Zygos Partnership

Charlotte Boyle is an Associate Partner of the Zygos Partnership, one of the UK's leading Board search firms. Its focus is Board level appointments which enhance business performance and drive shareholder value and its services include executive and non-executive search as well as Board appraisal and succession planning.

Charlotte has ten years' experience in Board and non-executive director search and has a particular focus on Finance appointments including Group Finance Directors and Audit Committee Chairmen and the Real Estate Sector where she specialises in the appointment of Chief Executive, Chairman and executive and non-executive directors. She joined the Zygos Partnership from Goldman Sachs International where she was an Associate in the US equities division. Prior to business school she spent four years with the Board Practice of the international search firm Egon Zehnder International focusing on Chairman and Non-executive Director appointments for FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 businesses.

Charlotte has an MA from Oxford University, an MBA from London Business School and was a Bahrain British Foundation Scholar.

Common Purpose

Julia Middleton is the Founder and Chief Executive of Common Purpose. She is a passionate campaigner for more - and more diverse - leaders who are active in civil society. In the autumn of 1988, Julia formed Common Purpose. Common Purpose now operates in every area of the UK. The organisation aims to improve the way society works by increasing the number of informed individuals who are actively involved in shaping the future of the area in which they live and work. By bringing leaders from diverse backgrounds together, Common Purpose creates new networks for current and future senior decision-makers. Julia is a trustee of the Impetus Trust and of the Arab Learning Initiative, and a member of the Shadow National Advisory Board of the National Centre for Diversity.
 
View from a Non-Executive     Rita Clifton
Interbrand

On graduating from Cambridge, Rita Clifton began her career in advertising, working at DMB&B and later at J Walter Thompson. She joined Saatchi & Saatchi in 1986 and worked with a wide range of the agency’s high profile clients – including British Airways, Procter & Gamble, 3i, Campbell’s Foods, The British Army, Visa International, PowerGen, Schweppes and British Telecom. She was promoted to Director of Strategic Planning there in 1992, and to Vice-Chairman & Executive Planning Director in 1995. In 1997, Rita was invited to join Interbrand, the world’s leading brand consultancy and pioneer of Brand Valuation, as Chief Executive in London; in January 2002 she became Chairman. Rita joined the board of Dixons Group plc as a non executive director in September 2003, and became non-executive Chairman of Populus, the reputation research consultancy and pollster to The Times, in September 2004. Her most recent non-executive appointment is with EMAP plc.
